The Pink Cottage by Keira Elizabeth

If you have noticed, I posted my dream houses on this blog. Unfortunately, none of those was approved by my husband. Below photo that I got from www.eplans.com caught his eye and approved it right away. We just agreed on some modifications like to roof colour, wall exterior colour and the likes. 

Building a home is costly. But if we have to wait for the time that we can afford to build one, nothing will happen. Well, things would be different is your parents have millions in their bank account stashed only for you. If you'll only rely on your savings, now is the time to wake up. Remember that shelter is one of our three basic needs. 

So here it is. The ranch house will be named "The Pink Cottage". You might be asking why would I name my house, especially in the provincial area? You might believe that I'm crazy. Well, I am not. In England and other countries, it's common to give your dwelling a name. It's their tradition but I want to follow it. Not for being too ambitious of course. I just want it to have a name, just like giving a name to your pet or to your kids. Period.

I beg pardon if the photo above doesn't show a pink colour. Maybe you are wondering where did I get the name? Simple. I got it from playing Farmville on Facebook. I copied the house plan from www.eplans.com and ask an engineer to layout the house specifications that would be similar to the photo. The original plan was drafted for houses built in the US, but since we are in a tropical area where it's humid most of the time, I opted to change the roof colours as well as the walls. Instead of sliding windows, we opted for casement windows to allow 100 percent entry of fresh air. 

The Pink Cottage will soon rise at Bugang, San Miguel Bohol. After a few months of waiting for the house specifications, we finally had it last April 2016 and processing of building permit is currently on-going. And while the permit isn't done yet, we hire crews to clean the land where the cottage will be built. 

On May 18, concrete and masonry for foundations, columns and beams will commence with the supervision of my husband. Hopefully, farm price of rice would be higher by that time so that we can have a better deal. Oh, I forgot to mention that our family is engaged in rice farming. But the harvest in April 2016 is not something to brag about due to the El Niño phenomenon that wrecked havoc in agricultural areas throughout the nation.


Coco Lumbers are already prepared for the construction of The Pink Cottage. Towards the end of May 2016, laying the cottage foundations will be complete. If money won't be short by June 2016, we will be able to purchase the roofing materials necessary for the entire cottage. And instead of using dark colours as commonly used in the neighbourhood, we will opt for an off-white metal roof. 

Right now, we are just waiting for the rainy season so that we can start in planting fruit trees around the cottage.

Instead of an off-white roof, the colour was red. Construction is still on-going. Hopefully, by the end of 2017, some improvements will be added.
